We are delighted to announce that FE Trustnet has renewed its 5 Crown Fund Rating for the Defensive Capital Fund in its July 2017 review.

twice a year in January and July, the rating takes into account three key measurements to derive a fund’s performance: alpha, volatility and consistently strong performance.

FE Trustnet say the following about manager Jon Gumpel and the fund, “Overall, performing better than the peer group composite. Over a fairly lengthy track record, the manager has, period by period, consistently managed to outperform the peer group. Good stockpicking has had a material positive impact on results, which have not been particularly exposed to falling markets.”

FE Trustnet also provide some analysis on Jon Gumpel’s and the fund's performance vs peer group composite:

Overall markets - Outperformed peer group composite in 6 years out of a possible 6

Rising markets - Outperformed peer group composite in 4 years out of a possible 4

FE Crown Fund Ratings enable investors to distinguish between funds that are strongly outperforming their benchmark and those that are not. The top 10% of funds are awarded five FE Crowns, the next 15% receive four Crowns and each of the remaining three quartiles are given three, two and one Crown(s) respectively.

The Ratings are frequently used by professional advisers to screen for the best performing funds in a sector and at a factsheet level are used as part of an adviser’s paper trail to show thorough and rigorous research has been undertaken.
